Art should definitely be accessible to all - and that is the idea behind creating the documentary "Brazilomania". There are lots of individual artists as well as small independent projects that try to spread this message. I am personally one of them.
And there are also projects done on such a grand scale that they stare you right in the face. If you're in Rio de Janeiro, you are quite literary faced with it as you wander along the beach of Botafogo.
Meet the 12-meter head created by the Spanish artist Jaume Plensa as part of the contemporary art project Other Ideas for Rio (OiR, Portuguese acronym). Well, she doesn't quite stare at you as the statue's eyes are closed, but you get the point. "Olhar Nos Meus Sonhos", or "To Look into My Dreams", is supposed to remind us to do just that - dream. If you're in Brazil anytime soon, you can see five other public art installations before they disappear in November.
Whether it's big and bold, or delicate and subtle, art should be enjoyed and accessed by anyone interested to see it. Beauty and inspiration make us dream, and open up to new possibilities.
